Aufgehoben

You don't need to know what Aufgehoben look like, or what their names are, or where they live. The only thing you need to know about Aufgehoben is that they are the greatest band you will ever hear. Coming together at most once a year, the band improvise straight to tape and produce an album from the resulting recording. There are no rehearsals.

John Chantler

Resident of Brisbane, rural Japan and now South London, John Chantler's sound has shifted from organic electronics to his current interests in exploratory electro-acoustics, messy guitars and a loose spin on rhythm. He has collaborated with Matt Nicholson of Function, Saya and Ueno of Tenniscoats and performed as a member of Tori Kudo's Maher Shalal Hash Baz. John also played drums on the recent record by Japanese avant-pop diva Tujiko Noriko. John looks after UK & Digital operations for the upstart Australian-based imprint ROOM40 and co-presents the Frequenzen programme on London's Resonance FM.

Lum Col Con Pix

Essentially an exercise in textural soundscaping, Lum Col Con Pix involves DJing with six turntables (or as many as are available), lifting the styli slightly from the surface of the records and harnessing the natural warp in the records to capture irregular glitch loops of sound, layering these to create dense textures of musical noise. Using no samplers, effects, overdubs or technological trickery, Lum Col Con Pix focus on exploring the interaction between needle and vinyl, staying firmly with the physical medium and creating startling effects using only manipulations that can be made by hand. Staying true to the process, every piece is an exact recording of an improvised live performance with no post-production or alteration.

Discogaphy:
Lum Col Con Pix (Fourier Transform, 2005) lathe cut 12" LP
A Little Bit Of Lum Col Con Pix (Spank Diuretic Records, 2004) CD

Traw

Traw (pronounced tra-oo) is a trio of Cardiff-based improvising musicians who use software to investigate the musicality of unconventional or conceptually related sound sources: from field recordings of fireworks and rural shops to objects found in the bathroom. They also collaborate with live musicians, using real-time sampling and processing to create dense and unpredictable soundworlds.
